I ran the Striders 10k today.  Met up with Mike D., Ben, Todd and Sean at Peak Performance.  We ran from there to the Dee Events Center and then ran the 10k.  Ran back to the store after the race.  Total mileage for the day was 10.5.  I really wasn't looking forward to the last mile and a half of the race as I'm very familiar with this road having run it numerous times.  I decided to push the pace a little the first half and hope I had some time built up for the end.  I was at 21 minutes exactly at the 3 mile mark.  I was hopeful at that point that I could break 45.  It wasn't even close.  My miles were as follows:

1. 7:11

2. 6:36

3. 7:12

4. 7:51

5. 8:45

6. 8:43

.2- 1:23

I saw several fastrunningblog shirts and met a couple of fellow bloggers.  This was a good race that emphasized to me that I need to get stronger on the hills.  I hear the 10 miler in two weeks is basically the same route with some additonal hills thrown in.

I ran with Cherrie. She's running the 5 miler in Moab and has only been on the treadmill and wanted to get on the road at least once. It was a pretty slow run but it felt good to get the blood moving after yesterday's run.

Ran tonight with Mike, Todd and Shane. We did a hill workout. Went down to Glasmann then turned up crossed Harrison and got on Old Post Rd. Ran the first mile of the Striders 5k. Kept climbing up into Shadow Valley. Got on Skyline and went south to Woodland and then down Dominion and back to Peak. A lot of hills. After the 10k Saturday it was decided that we need more hill work. Hopefully it will pay dividends.

I ran with Todd and Shane.  We left Peak and ran down to Burch Creek and then to 41st, went up to Monroe and then Glasmann and back to the store.  The first 3 miles was downhill with the last three mostly up.  My right calf cramped up on the way back.  it made me a little nervous for Saturday.

The official results have me in at 1:36:05, but my Garmin had me at 1:36:21 so I'm going with that. This was the fourth straight year I've run this race so I felt going in that it would be a good test of where I'm at compared with the past couple of years.  In 05 I ran it in 1:55:24, 06--1:43:15, 07--1:38:41.  It's nice to see progress and that I am getting faster.  In 04 I ran the five mile race and it was the first time I had ever run that far and I ran it in 45:27.

As far as this year's race, the weather was perfect for running.  It was a little cool for riding ATVs Thursday and Friday however.  I debated how I wanted to run this.  Part of me wanted to conserve early and hopefully have some strength left for the hill during mile nine and then a strong finish.  At the last minute I decided to take advantage of the early decline and push the pace early.  My miles are as follows:

1--6:47

2--6:41

3--7:13

4--7:02

5--7:33

6--6:56

7--7:33

8--7:22

9--My Garmin messed up during this mile.  We were in along a steep canyon wall and I think it threw it off.  It showed a 6:16 mile but it registered a mile at about the .80 mark.  From here my miles are off with the course.  I'll list them anyway

10--7:40

11--7:23

12-7:34

13-7:35

.35--that was the distance left with the screw up.  I ran it in 2:36 which was a 7:32 pace.

Overall, I felt really good with my effort today.  I was hopeful for a 1:35, but also felt that anything under 1:37 would be a good time.  Unfortunately I didn't meet up with any bloggers although a female in a blue FRB long sleeve shirt passed me around mile 1.

I ran three easy miles in my neighborhood after we got home from Moab.  I stayed in the nine minute range.  My legs were a lot sorer than expected.  It felt good to get them moving though.

I ran 5 miles. My legs were very sore and heavy. I went up to Burch Creek and crossed Washington. I went through the Terrace and crossed back at Hilltop. My legs loosened up a little the last 2 miles, but they never felt real good.

I ran with Todd.  We left his house and ran up past Golf City, took Harrison to Old Post to the Dee Events Center, crossed Harrison, went down to Glasmann and back up to Todds.  Both of us are still a little sore so we took it fairly easy.  Stayed in the 8 to 8:30 range for most of the run.

I left my house and went up Jefferson to Burch Creek, turned and went up Chambers to St. Josephs.  Crossed Washington and went through S. Ogden past Friendship park, past the armory and into the Terrace.  Went past Ogden Regional and across 5500 S.  Turned down 500 W. to 4800 S., down to Bonneville and then down and crossed at hilltop and back home.  The first two miles was mostly uphill, the rest was flat and slightly downhill.  My legs felt pretty good today.  I had a massage earlier in the day and I think that helped with the soreness.  The first two miles were 9:15 pace, and then between 8:15 and 8:30 the rest of the way.

Striders ten miler today.  I debated not running this.  After Moab last week and the 10k the week before I wasn't sure my legs were ready for another race.  I finally decided to run it and treat it more as a longer training ran.  I got up and ran from my house up to the race start.  It's mostly uphill to the Dee Events Center and my legs were yelling at me.  I got my number and walked to the start line.  I was walking behind five bloggers.  They were talking about going 1-5.  It looks like they went 2-6.  Good job on a tough course.  I met up at the start with Ben, Anthony, Mike G., Kacie, Billie, and Angie.  Everyone in the group had the same attitude towards running this. I started out easy.  I was about 2 minutes slower at the three mile mark than I was at the 10k.  My miles were as follows:

1.  8:02

2.  7:17

3.  7:45--Kacie and Mike passed me at this point.  I decided  to keep up with them.

4.  7:57

5. 8:45

6.  8:45

7.  9:27

8.  6:43

9. 7:02

10. 7:40

I t was kind of fun to run the race the way I did.  Normally I run too hard early and end up getting passed by a lot of people towards the end.  Today was the opposite.  I was the one passing people the last five miles. I planned on running this at an 8 minute pace which would have been a 1:20.  Came in 23 seconds under so I felt good about how I ran this.  I ran home afterwards for another mile plus.

Todd and I left Peak.  Went down through S. Ogden past Friendship and the Armory, past Bonneville and crossed at Hilltop.  Came back up Burch Creek to Chambers.  Had a 8:14 pace.  The first 4 is gradual downhill, with the return trip pretty much all uphill.  It was a good run tonight.  My legs were sore on the uphill coming back.

I was in Mesquite for my son's baseball tournament.  Left the hotel and ran on a tour of Mesquite.  Total distance was 5.75.  Nice running town.  The roads all had wide shoulders and their are paved paths that run along the dry river bottoms through the town.

Ran on one of the paved river paths in Mesquite between baseball games.  I didn't have a lot of time so I didn't run as far as I would have liked.  Stayed in the 7:30-7:45 range.

I ran with Todd and Sean.  We started at Peak Performance and ran down to Ogden Regional and then down the toll road into lower Uintah.  ran through Uintah, crossed 89 and then went up Combe to Eastwood.  Got on Harrison and ran to Old Post road, went to the Dee Events Center, over to WSU, made our way to Mt. Ogden Park and then to 20th Street.  Turned and went down to the mouth of Ogden Canyon and got on the parkway and ran the last three miles of the Ogden Marathon.  It was a good run with a very steep hill and some rollers between miles 9 and 15.  The pace varied early until we got the big hill up Combe out of the way.  Stayed in the 8 to 8:30 pace after that.

My right calf was killing me today after yesterday's long run.  I hope it's not injured.  I went to the OAC and went swimming.  I hadn't swam since I did the triathlon back in November.  I forgot how difficult it is.  It felt like I have no cardio. Anyway, I did ten laps (with breaks in between).

I ran out around Business Depot in Ogden while my son was practicing baseball at the Sandlot.  I took it pretty easy.  I had a basketball game later so I didn't want to be too worn out.  I stayed in the 9 minute pace the entire time.  My legs are still sore, but they felt better as the run progressed.  Played a basketball game a couple of hours later.  We won our region tournament so we're now in the multi-region tournament.  We won so we play again tomorrow night.  I'll probably take tomorrow off from running.

Played another basketball game.  We won again so we're in the finals for the multi-region tournament.  This isn't good for my running, as I'll need to take tomorrow off again.

Took the day off of running.  Played basketball.  Third game in three nights and my legs were toast.  Unfortunately we lost.  Now I can get back to running on the road.

Todd and I ran the toll road.  Went through S. Ogden and Washington Terrace, down the toll road, through lower Uintah, crossed Washington and went up Combe to Eastwood and back to Peak.  My first four miles were in the 8:15 range.  I slowed down considerably after that.  Three days of basketball games definitely took a toll on my legs.
