| | I took the week off to see if it would help my legs. Unfortunately the aches came earlier in the run than normal. The plan was originally to get up and meet with some friends for an 8 or 9 miler. It was snowing hard with about 6 inches on the ground at 7:30 so we called it off. I went and played church basketball instead. I ended up playing back to back games. Later when it quit snowing and the sun came out I went for my run alone. I chose a fairly easy gradual downhill run. Early in the third mile my left calf and my right hip started acting up. I was doing an easy 8:45 pace. I'm officially discouraged. I'm not sure whether I ought to lay off for another week and see if things get better or if I should run through it. I'll probably go back to the treadmill for a while to see if that helps. | |
| | I went to the club and ran on the treadmill. I ran a pretty slow pace. The legs were sore but I didn't get the pains I've been getting. |
| | I ran with Mike D. and Sean. We left Peak Performance and ran through S. Ogden, past the Armory and then over to Ogden Regional. Went across 5500 S. to 500 W. down to 4800 S. past Bonneville and then down to Hilltop. Went down to Adams and then down to my office at 25th and Washington. For the first time since the Tucson Marathon I had a good run. I was very encouraged. I didn't get any pain in my calf. the last half mile my hip started getting a little sore but it wasn't unbearable. We didn't run real hard 8:30-9:00 minute pace. Hopefully I can now resume my regular running. |
| | I ran on a treadmill at the club. very boring. the good news is there was no pain. |
| | I met up with Todd over at the club and ran on a treadmill. No pain agian. I'm getting hopeful that things are back to normal and I can resume my regular running. Now if it would just warm up so I can get back on the road. |
| | I ran with Ben, Mike D. and Sean. We left Peak Performance and went up above Weber State. got on the trails. There was a lot of snow. In places there was a smooth trail of packed snow that made running real easy. In other places we were knee deep trying to pick up the trail again. We left the trails at 29th Street and continued on the roads to 20th St. From there we dropped down and turned to go past El Monte and down to Rainbow Gardens. The last mile or so we picked up the pace and I dropped down to a 6:30 pace. I could only maintain that for about a half mile and started to get winded. Finsihed the last half mile at a 7:30 pace. Overall my legs felt really good. |
| | I went up to the club and ran on a treadmill. the plan was to run 5 miles. My feet and knees were sore and I cut it short after three miles. I actually had to slow down and walk after two miles. Not a good run. |
| | Today was the opposite of yesterday. I went up to the club and ran on the treadmill again. My legs felt strong. After yesterday I was planning on running 4 miles. I felt great so I continued until I got to five and a half and then picked up a little more during the cool down. |
| | Todd met me at my office and we took off just as it started to snow. It was snowing hard and stuck to the roads, but my footing was good and had a great run. We went up 26th then cut over to 20th where we went up above Harrison, then North to 26th and back to my office. The first half of the run was basically uphill we stayed in the 8:30 o 9:00 range. dropped down to 7:45 to 8:00 on the way back. Legs felt fine again. I think I'm back and ready to increase my mileage and speed. |
| | I ran today with Mike D. We left Peak Performance and ran the Combe loop backwards. from there, crossed Harrison went through S. Ogden past the armory and into Wash. Terrace, past the hospital and then down to Bonneville. continued through the terrace, crossed Washington at Hilltop, then went down to Adams and from there to my office. took it pretty easy in the 8:30 to 9:00 minute range until the last 2.5 miles where I picked up the speed and dropped down to 7:15-7:30 pace. I felt okay running at that pace. Was a little sore and tired at the end. | |
| | Ran with Todd. We left Peak Performance and ran to Rainbow Gardens via the Ogden east bench. Starting my legs were pretty sore. After a couple of miles they felt much better. The pace ranged from some miles in the 8:45 range down to 7:20. |
| | Went to the OAC and ran on the treadmill. I was concerned that after my two semi-long runs over the weekend my legs would be sore. They were a little sore at first but they loosened up quickly and had a good run. |
| | Todd and I ran from my office up to Monroe, over to 20th and then up to Harrison. Crossed Harrison and ran down to Rainbow Gardens. From there we got on the river parkway and basically ran the last 3+ miles of the Ogden Marathon and ended back at my office. Had a good combo of up, down and flat. |
| | I ran with Todd and Sean. We left Peak Performance and ran up to Weber, then to Mt. Ogden and over to 20th. Dropped down to Rainbow Gardens and then took the Ogden River trail down to Grant and then up to 25th and then to my office. We took it easy the first five miles. Todd and I picked up the pace and dropped down to the 7-7:45 range most of the last 6 miles. |
| |
I ran 4.25 fairly easy miles on the treadmill. Enjoyed the Jazz whoop up on the Hornets. |
| | Ran on the treadmill. I'm really getting sick of the treadmill. |
| | Ran with Todd. We did the Peak Performance to Burch Creek loop. A good run with the first four slightly down and the last three up. Had some miles in the 7:40 range and some in the 9 range on the way up. |
| | Ran with Mike D. and Ben. We left Peak Performance and ran Combe backwards. Then made our way through Shadow Valley over to Weber State, past Mt. Ogden and then down to the mouth of the canyon. Took the Ogden River parkway down to Washington and then up to my office. After a rough first two miles I had a good run. Legs felt good the whole way. |
| | After Saturday's long run and skiing all day yesterday me legs were sore today. I did an easy 5.25 on the treadmill. Hopefully in another week I'll be back on the road full time. |
| | Ran with Todd from his house through S. Ogden, past Friendship, the armory and into the Terrace. Went down past Bonneville and then crossed Washington at Hilltop. Went to Adams, down to 42nd, up to Monroe, to Glasmann, ran Glasmann and back to Todds. Had a 7:59 pace for the run. The first 3.5 was down hill or flat. The way back was almost all uphill, some it pretty steep. This was the best run I've had since Tucson. | |
| |
I ran four easy miles on the treadmill.

Striders 5k (3.1 Miles) 00:23:38, Place overall: 74, Place in age division: 12
Ran the Striders 5k. Met up with Ben, Todd and Shane at Peak Performance. We ran up to the Dee Events center. From there ran the 5k. We started at the back of the pack because I didn't want to go out too fast and didn't plan on really pushing it too hard. It took a while to thin out. At .25 I was doing a 15 minute pace. I finally got some room to run and picked up the pace along Old Post Road. First mile was 7:55. Hit Wasatch and the hills. Slowed down considerably. Second mile was 7:57. Third mile ran a 7:02. I didn't hate this race as much as I expected. The course is only a couple of miles from my house and I run these roads all the time so I was well aware of the early hills. My only regret was that I started towards the back of the pack. That cost me at least thirty seconds. After the race, Todd, Ben and I ran past Mt. Ogden Park, down to 20th and then past El Monte to the mouth of the canyon. Got on the Ogden river parkway and ran the last three miles of the Ogden Marathon and ended at my office. Total miles for the day was 15.
| | Did four easy miles on the treadmill while I watched the all-star game. My legs were pretty sore after yesterday's run. |
| |
Ran tonight with Todd. We left my house and ran down Adams to 41st up to Monroe to Glasmann, up to the Catholic Church, crossed Washington and then down past Friendship, the armory, Bonneville and crossed Washington at Hilltop and back to my house. First three miles was mostly up hill with the last 3.5 down. Once we topped out stayed in the 7:35-45 range. Had a good run tonight. |
| | Ran from my house with Todd. We went up Jefferson to Burch Creek, crossed Washington at the armory, went to Ogden Regional and then across the top of the Terrace, down to 4800 past Bonneville, down to Hilltop and back home. After we got the first mile out of the way, I stayed in the 7:45 to 8:15 range. I wasn't having a good run and let Todd go. I don't know if it was the bad air, but I was having a hard time with my breathing. |
| | four and half easy miles on the treadmill while I watched the Jazz get whooped. |
| |
Today was an interesting run. I met up with Todd, Anthony and Mike G. We drove up to Morgan To Kacie's house. From there Kacie and Billy joined us and Kacies husband drove us up above East Canyon and we ran back to Kacies. The wind was howling the first five miles. It was very difficult to run into it. Once we got past the dam and started into the canyon we were sheltered from the wind. We saw lots of deer. The number was in the hundreds. One jumped up onto the road about fifteen feet in front of Todd, Billy and I. It about gave me a heart attack.. We also saw Moose, an eagle and wild turkeys. Unfortunately there was a lot of road kill on the side of the road, including two porcupines and a deer that had been hit not long before we got to her because she was still squirming around. Unfortunately we didn't see the wild llama that roams these parts. Two weeks ago it made an appearance and went after Anthony. See here for proof. http://www.kammeyeronline.com/photos/run/Winter%202008%20Running/slides/Morgan%20Running-003.html I went skiing that day so I missed it. If it wasn't for the pictures I wouldn't have believed it myself.
The last three miles it started to rain really hard. By the time we got back to Kacies I was drenched. We kept up a pretty good pace all things considered. Had an 8:38 pace for the run. The run had a lot of rolling hills including two pretty steep uphill portions up above East Canyon.
| | I ran on the treadmill and watched the Jazz get whooped again. |
| | Todd and I ran the Combe loop to Wasatch, crossed Harrison at Starbucks and then went down to Article Circle and back to Peak Performance. My right calf was sore. Ran the first 4 around 7:50, slowed down for the last 2. Had a 8:10 pace for the run. | |
| | I got the bike out for the first time this year and went for a short ride. Went 9 miles. |
| Race: |
Striders 10k (6.2 Miles) 00:47:42, Place overall: 56, Place in age division: 7
I ran the Striders 10k today. Met up with Mike D., Ben, Todd and Sean at Peak Performance. We ran from there to the Dee Events Center and then ran the 10k. Ran back to the store after the race. Total mileage for the day was 10.5. I really wasn't looking forward to the last mile and a half of the race as I'm very familiar with this road having run it numerous times. I decided to push the pace a little the first half and hope I had some time built up for the end. I was at 21 minutes exactly at the 3 mile mark. I was hopeful at that point that I could break 45. It wasn't even close. My miles were as follows:
1. 7:11
2. 6:36
3. 7:12
4. 7:51
5. 8:45
6. 8:43
.2- 1:23
I saw several fastrunningblog shirts and met a couple of fellow bloggers. This was a good race that emphasized to me that I need to get stronger on the hills. I hear the 10 miler in two weeks is basically the same route with some additonal hills thrown in.
| | I ran with Cherrie. She's running the 5 miler in Moab and has only been on the treadmill and wanted to get on the road at least once. It was a pretty slow run but it felt good to get the blood moving after yesterday's run. |
| | Ran tonight with Mike, Todd and Shane. We did a hill workout. Went down to Glasmann then turned up crossed Harrison and got on Old Post Rd. Ran the first mile of the Striders 5k. Kept climbing up into Shadow Valley. Got on Skyline and went south to Woodland and then down Dominion and back to Peak. A lot of hills. After the 10k Saturday it was decided that we need more hill work. Hopefully it will pay dividends. |
| | I ran with Todd and Shane. We left Peak and ran down to Burch Creek and then to 41st, went up to Monroe and then Glasmann and back to the store. The first 3 miles was downhill with the last three mostly up. My right calf cramped up on the way back. it made me a little nervous for Saturday. |

Canyonlands Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:36:21, Place overall: 193, Place in age division: 34
The official results have me in at 1:36:05, but my Garmin had me at 1:36:21 so I'm going with that. This was the fourth straight year I've run this race so I felt going in that it would be a good test of where I'm at compared with the past couple of years. In 05 I ran it in 1:55:24, 06--1:43:15, 07--1:38:41. It's nice to see progress and that I am getting faster. In 04 I ran the five mile race and it was the first time I had ever run that far and I ran it in 45:27.
As far as this year's race, the weather was perfect for running. It was a little cool for riding ATVs Thursday and Friday however. I debated how I wanted to run this. Part of me wanted to conserve early and hopefully have some strength left for the hill during mile nine and then a strong finish. At the last minute I decided to take advantage of the early decline and push the pace early. My miles are as follows:
1--6:47
2--6:41
3--7:13
4--7:02
5--7:33
6--6:56
7--7:33
8--7:22
9--My Garmin messed up during this mile. We were in along a steep canyon wall and I think it threw it off. It showed a 6:16 mile but it registered a mile at about the .80 mark. From here my miles are off with the course. I'll list them anyway
10--7:40
11--7:23
12-7:34
13-7:35
.35--that was the distance left with the screw up. I ran it in 2:36 which was a 7:32 pace.
Overall, I felt really good with my effort today. I was hopeful for a 1:35, but also felt that anything under 1:37 would be a good time. Unfortunately I didn't meet up with any bloggers although a female in a blue FRB long sleeve shirt passed me around mile 1.
| | I ran three easy miles in my neighborhood after we got home from Moab. I stayed in the nine minute range. My legs were a lot sorer than expected. It felt good to get them moving though. |
| | I ran 5 miles. My legs were very sore and heavy. I went up to Burch Creek and crossed Washington. I went through the Terrace and crossed back at Hilltop. My legs loosened up a little the last 2 miles, but they never felt real good. |
| | I ran with Todd. We left his house and ran up past Golf City, took Harrison to Old Post to the Dee Events Center, crossed Harrison, went down to Glasmann and back up to Todds. Both of us are still a little sore so we took it fairly easy. Stayed in the 8 to 8:30 range for most of the run. |
| | I left my house and went up Jefferson to Burch Creek, turned and went up Chambers to St. Josephs. Crossed Washington and went through S. Ogden past Friendship park, past the armory and into the Terrace. Went past Ogden Regional and across 5500 S. Turned down 500 W. to 4800 S., down to Bonneville and then down and crossed at hilltop and back home. The first two miles was mostly uphill, the rest was flat and slightly downhill. My legs felt pretty good today. I had a massage earlier in the day and I think that helped with the soreness. The first two miles were 9:15 pace, and then between 8:15 and 8:30 the rest of the way. |
| Race: |
Striders 10 miler (10 Miles) 01:19:37, Place overall: 63, Place in age division: 11
Striders ten miler today. I debated not running this. After Moab last week and the 10k the week before I wasn't sure my legs were ready for another race. I finally decided to run it and treat it more as a longer training ran. I got up and ran from my house up to the race start. It's mostly uphill to the Dee Events Center and my legs were yelling at me. I got my number and walked to the start line. I was walking behind five bloggers. They were talking about going 1-5. It looks like they went 2-6. Good job on a tough course. I met up at the start with Ben, Anthony, Mike G., Kacie, Billie, and Angie. Everyone in the group had the same attitude towards running this. I started out easy. I was about 2 minutes slower at the three mile mark than I was at the 10k. My miles were as follows:
1. 8:02
2. 7:17
3. 7:45--Kacie and Mike passed me at this point. I decided to keep up with them.
4. 7:57
5. 8:45
6. 8:45
7. 9:27
8. 6:43
9. 7:02
10. 7:40
I t was kind of fun to run the race the way I did. Normally I run too hard early and end up getting passed by a lot of people towards the end. Today was the opposite. I was the one passing people the last five miles. I planned on running this at an 8 minute pace which would have been a 1:20. Came in 23 seconds under so I felt good about how I ran this. I ran home afterwards for another mile plus.
| |
| | Went four easy miles on the treadmill. |
| | Todd and I left Peak. Went down through S. Ogden past Friendship and the Armory, past Bonneville and crossed at Hilltop. Came back up Burch Creek to Chambers. Had a 8:14 pace. The first 4 is gradual downhill, with the return trip pretty much all uphill. It was a good run tonight. My legs were sore on the uphill coming back. |
| | I was in Mesquite for my son's baseball tournament. Left the hotel and ran on a tour of Mesquite. Total distance was 5.75. Nice running town. The roads all had wide shoulders and their are paved paths that run along the dry river bottoms through the town. |
| | Ran on one of the paved river paths in Mesquite between baseball games. I didn't have a lot of time so I didn't run as far as I would have liked. Stayed in the 7:30-7:45 range. |
| | I ran with Todd and Sean. We started at Peak Performance and ran down to Ogden Regional and then down the toll road into lower Uintah. ran through Uintah, crossed 89 and then went up Combe to Eastwood. Got on Harrison and ran to Old Post road, went to the Dee Events Center, over to WSU, made our way to Mt. Ogden Park and then to 20th Street. Turned and went down to the mouth of Ogden Canyon and got on the parkway and ran the last three miles of the Ogden Marathon. It was a good run with a very steep hill and some rollers between miles 9 and 15. The pace varied early until we got the big hill up Combe out of the way. Stayed in the 8 to 8:30 pace after that. |
| | My right calf was killing me today after yesterday's long run. I hope it's not injured. I went to the OAC and went swimming. I hadn't swam since I did the triathlon back in November. I forgot how difficult it is. It felt like I have no cardio. Anyway, I did ten laps (with breaks in between). |
| | I went two easy miles on the treadmill. I wanted to loosen up my calf which it did. |
| | I ran out around Business Depot in Ogden while my son was practicing baseball at the Sandlot. I took it pretty easy. I had a basketball game later so I didn't want to be too worn out. I stayed in the 9 minute pace the entire time. My legs are still sore, but they felt better as the run progressed. Played a basketball game a couple of hours later. We won our region tournament so we're now in the multi-region tournament. We won so we play again tomorrow night. I'll probably take tomorrow off from running. |
| | Played another basketball game. We won again so we're in the finals for the multi-region tournament. This isn't good for my running, as I'll need to take tomorrow off again. |
| | Took the day off of running. Played basketball. Third game in three nights and my legs were toast. Unfortunately we lost. Now I can get back to running on the road. |
| | Todd and I ran the toll road. Went through S. Ogden and Washington Terrace, down the toll road, through lower Uintah, crossed Washington and went up Combe to Eastwood and back to Peak. My first four miles were in the 8:15 range. I slowed down considerably after that. Three days of basketball games definitely took a toll on my legs. |
| | I ran with Todd and Shane. We left Peak Performance and took Harrison to Old Post. Went up to the Dee Events Center, then to the football stadium, up around to Skyline and then back to the Dee Events Center and back to Peak via Old Post and Harrison. I stayed in the 7:45 range on the way out. Slowed down considerably up Skyline and then down to around an 8 minute pace the rest of the way. My shines were sore. I've never had sore shins before, I'm assuming it's from all of the basketball last week. |
| | I took a couple of days off due to a bad schedule and also wanting to let my legs rest a little bit. I decided I better get out today and get the blood flowing before tomorrow. I ran from my house down to my office. I stayed right around a 9 minute pace. My left shin is still extremely sore. I'm a little concerned for the half tomorrow. I'll load up on the vitamin I and hope it feels okay. |

Striders half marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:38:28, Place overall: 75, Place in age division: 14
I ran the Striders half today. I wanted to run this faster than I ran Moab and was hopeful I could break 1:35. It wasn't in the cards today. I probably went out a little fast the first five miles and paid for it the last five. It was a good tune-up for Ogden to remind to respect the rolling hills after mile 7 and not go out too fast. My miles were as follows:
1. 7:09
2. 6:58
3. 6:56
4. 7:10
5. 7:12
6. 7:31
7. 7:27
8. 7:40
9. 7:59
10. 8:07
11. 7:54
12. 8:08
13. 7:45

| | Went to a surprise B-Day party for Anthony at Peak. Ran home from there. I ate too much pizza and cake. Not an enjoyable run. |
| | I ran with Todd and Mike D. We left Peak and ran down to Wash. Terrace and then crossed Washington at Hilltop. Went down Adams to 41st, up to Monroe and then to Glasmann and back to Peak. A good run with a lot of uphill the last three miles. |
| | I went up to Beus Pond and ran four 800s. The times were 3:10, 3:18, 3:27 and 3:14. Did a mile warm up and some cool down for 4.25 total miles. |
| | I ran from the Combe loops backwards, then down past Golf City, to Chambers, to Burch Creek to home. Had an 8:18 pace. |
| | Ran with most of the usual suspects today. We started at the snowmobile parking lot up on Monte and ran down to the Chevron in Huntsville. It was a beautiful day. A little cold at the start. Still between four and five feet of snow up there. Nice downhill until Red Rocks at mile 9 where the Ogden Marathon starts. Followed that course most of the last 9. Ran a little faster than I intended. Had an 8:22 pace for the run. Felt surprisingly strong the last two miles. Hopefully that's a sign of good things to come for Ogden. | |
| | Ran on the treadmill. My quad's are real sore after Sunday's run. Took it easy. |
| | Got out at 11 p.m. Stayed in the neighborhood at a 9 min. clip. Legs still a little sore. Not as bad as last night though. |
| | I ran the full Combe loop from the store. Ran an 8:12 pace. Felt pretty good overall. |

Salt Lake Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:39:17, Place overall: 199, Place in age division: 21
I wasn't real excited to run this, but I got comped so I thought "what the heck." I liked the course a lot better than I expected and under the right circumstances I think I could have run a muchfaster time. I didn't have any expectations for this time wise. I was using it as a training run for Ogden sandwiched in between an 18 and 20 miler. I decided to push the pace early and see how it went. I felt pretty good the first 6 miles. My left hip started hurting during mile 7. It got progressively sorer until mile 10 where I decided to back off the pace. The miles are as follows.
1. 7:16--I was surprised it was this mile. I wasn't real close to the front and spent the first half mile getting around people who should really start towards the back of the pack.
2. 7:18
3. 7:36
4. 7:03
5. 7:10
6. 7:14
7. 7:14
8. 7:16
9. 7:44
10. 7:36
11. 8:00
12. 8:11
13. 7:43
.1-1:51-My Garmin shows .27 Which was a 7:15 pace. |
| | I ran today in Washinton Terrace while my son practiced baseball. I let Rohmer Park and ran up past Ogden Regional, then to Emerald Hills and back to Rohmer. My legs were really sore the first mile. I ran a 9:32 first mile. They loosened up and I felt pretty good after I got the first mile out of the way. I dropped the pace down between 8:20 and 8:40 the rest of the way. |
| | Went five miles on the treadmill while I watched the Lakers/Nuggets game. |
| | I ran the Ogden River parkway. I started at Washington, went down to the 21st pond, around the pond and back up the parkway to the park above Harrison, did the loop around the park and then back down to Washington. Ran the first two miles in the nine minute range, then ran the rest between 7:45 and 8:15. Had a great run, the legs felt good. |
| | I was signed up for the Striders series but due to 3 soccer games, 2 baseball games, a volleyball tournament and a dance competition, there was no way I could make it to the 30k. Instead I ran an easy 5 at an 8:40 pace in Centerville while my son warmed up for his baseball game. |
| | I ran with Todd, Mike D., and Shawn. We drove up to the top of Monte to the snowmobile parking lot and ran down to Huntsville. I felt great the first 11 miles, but wore out after that. Ran a 7:45 pace the first 10 miles, then a 8:30 to 9:00 the rest of the way. | |
| | 3 easy miles on the treadmill while I watched the Jazz get worked by the Rockets. Ugly game. Good news is my hip felt fine. Quads a little sore though. |
| |
I ran five miles while my daughter was at dance. I left Gold's Gym in Ogden and ran the last two and half miles of the Ogden Marathon backwards and then back the way I came. Running the river parkway got me excited for Ogden. 17 more days.
| | I ran with John on the Ogden River parkway. We started at Washington and ran up to the mouth of the canyon and then back. Had an 8:04 pace for the run. |
| | I ran with Sean this morning. We ran the route we call "Bernies." Went along Combe and then up to Bernie's house, turned around and returned via Eastwood. Took it easy, stayed in the nine minute range. |
| | I ran with Todd, Mike D. and Sean. We ran the Combe loop backwards, then went to Old Post, to the Dee Events Center, through Weber State, past Mt. Ogden park and then down to 20th. Went past El Monte down to the mouth of the canyon and got on the Ogden River parkway and ran the last three and half miles of Ogden. Took it pretty easy. Ran in the 9 minute range the first 9 miles. Dropped down to 7:30 through the parkway. |
| |
Todd and I left Peak Performance and went up 20th, past Harrison and then turned and went past El Monte down to the mouth of the canyon and got on the Ogden River parkway. After we topped out on Harrison stayed in the 7:15 to 8 minute range. My legs felt heavy and tired today. Not sure why. |
| | Ran on the treadmill at the Pocatello Holiday Inn after a full day of baseball and junk food. |
| | I ran four and a half on the streets of Pocatello while my son warmed up for his first baseball game of the day. |
| | Ran with Todd, Mike D., Mike G., Sean, Quenton, and Heather. We started at the Albertsons on Harrison, ran through S. Ogden past the armory, turned and went to Ogden Regional and through Wash. Terace to 500 West, down to 48oo S. past Bonneville, continued down and then crossed Washington at Hilltop. Went down to Adams and then all the way to my office at 25th and Washington. Had an 8:29 pace. Nice gentle flat and down hill run. |
| | I ran up at Beus Pond with Todd. I did a warm up mile followed by four 800s and then a cool down loop. The times on the four 800s were 3:03, 3:10, 3:12, 3:08. I only did four because of the marathon this week. I haven't gone back to check, but I'm pretty sure these were faster than when I was regularly running these last summer. | |

Ogden Marathon (26.2 Miles) 03:50:50
I had such a lousy run that it has taken me several days to finally post this. After four years of pretty good progress I felt like this was a real step backwards. I'm not entirely sure what happened but I have a few ideas. The heat was definitely a factor. So was a lack of sleep. I made the mistake of driving up to Island Park on Thursday evening to check out a couple of properties. Stayed up late Thursday night having a little too much fun. My internal clock woke me up at 6:30 with less than 5 hours of sleep. Drove back to Ogden Friday afternoon went to the expo and then to dinner with friends. Went home and tried to go to bed but couldn't with the Jazz game on. Ended up watching the entire game. When it was over I was too worked up to get to sleep. Only got between 3 -4 hours of sleep that night. I still felt pretty good the morning of the race. Met up with most of my group at my office which is where the buses left from and rode up to the start. It was a nice morning. As others have commented, it was too nice. My goal was to run a 3:30 which I felt I should be able to do. I've had a problem running the first half too fast in prior marathons and burning out at the end. I Decided to try a different strategy and slow down early. Ran the first half exactly as planned. Wanted to be at 1:45 and then turn it on coming down the canyon. I hit the half way mark 20 seconds ahead of the plan. Got up the hill at mile 15 still feeling pretty good. However there was no turning it on. I struggled to maintain an 8 minute pace. I stayed in the 8 minute range until mile 21. Miles 21, 22 and 23 I stayed in the 8:30 to 9 minute pace. The heat was really getting to me and I was starting to feel nauseaus. At the aid station at mile 23 I took an orange and sucked in the juice. I had a bad reaction to it and ended up on the side of the trail dry heaving for a couple of minutes. For a while I thought my race was over. I recomposed and finished, but by that time there was nothing left and I struggled over the last three miles at over a 12 minute pace. When I crossed the finish line I got assisted to the medic tent where I spent the next 45 minutes. Not a pleasant experience. Unless I can find the time to get more miles in this will probably be my last marathon for awhile.
| | First run since the marathon. I expected my legs to be sore and therefore to have a difficult run. I surprisingly felt great. I ran from my house to my office. It's a gentle downhill slope. I had to force myself to stay above an 8 minute pace. Had some general soreness, but overall felt really strong. |
| | ran 2 miles in Heber City while my son warmed up for his baseball game. |
| | ran with Todd and Sean. We ran from Albertsons in S. Ogden down to my office via S. Ogden and Washington Terrace. We stayed between an 8 and 8:30 pace. My legs were a little sore, but overall they felt pretty good. |
| | I ran with Todd and Sean. We left the Albertsons parking lot and ran along harrison to Old Post. Ran to the Dee Events Center and then over to the football stadium. Turned up and ran up Skyline past Beus Pond and back down to the Dee Events Center and then back via Old Post Road. We varied the pace quite a bit between 7:15 down Old Post and a ten minute pace up Skyline. Overall, maintained an 8:30 pace. | |
| |
I ran in St. Louis. Left my hotel and ran through downtown past the Edward Jones Dome where the Rams play, down to the arch and along the Mississippi for a while and then back to my hotel. I didn't have a lot of time so cut it short after 3
|
| | Ran again in St. Louis with Mike. We ran down to the arch and then along the Mississippi and back to the hotel. |
| | I ran the trails above Ogden. There was a group of 9 or 10 of us. We left Rainbow Gardens at the mouth of Ogden Canyon and climbed up to the Bonneville Shoreline trail. From there continued south five plus miles and then turned around and made our way back to Rainbow Gardens. My right hip was causing me a lot of discomfort. I think it was because of all the climbing we did today. | |
| | I ran with Todd and Mike. We left Todd's house and went down Chambers to Goldenwest and then got on Washington and ran down to 40th. Turned up 40th to Adams and then up Adams to Burch Creek. Went up Burch Creek turned north again did a loop past Goldenwest and then back to Chambers and up to Todds. The first half was downhill and I ran in the seven minute range. Slowed down to 9 on the way back. |
| | I ran in Idaho Falls. I started on the paved trail that runs along the Snake River near the temple. I went down under the falls and then up the river a ways before returning to the point I started. This was a beautiful run. I ran a couple of the miles in the 7:15 range and the other two in the 8:15 range. |
| | I ran with Todd, Mike and Quenton. We started at Sherwood Hills and ran down to Mantua. Went around the lake and then down Sardine Canyon to the Wal-Mart in Brigham City. I hadn't done this run since last fall. We did it so often that I got sick of it. I forgot what a great run this is with great scenery as well as uphill, a lot of downhill and five miles of flat dirt trails. I ran the downhill portion between a 7:30 and 8:00 minute pace. Stayed right around 8:30 pace around the lake. | |
| | I ran a loop in my neighborhood. I stayed right a a 9 minute pace. I was surprised how sore my calves and shins were after Sunday's run. The good new is no hip pain. Hopefully that's gone for good. |
| | I ran an easy 3 in the neighborhood. My calves are still pretty sore. |
| | I ran in Island Park. I left my place, went down to Cascade and over to Big Springs Road. Ran down until I hit 3 1/2 and then turned around and went back. Unfortunately I didn't see any wildlife, which is unusual the time of the morning I ran. |
| | Todd and I left his house, went out to Washington and South to where it intersects with Harrison. Took Harrison to Eastwood and down to Combe, back to Harrison. Ran Harrison to Old Post, took Old Post to 4800, crossed Harrison, went to Glasmann, took Glasmann to Chambers and back to Todds. Had a great run. Our fastest mile was 7:17. Averaged under 8 until we hit the Glasmann hill. | |
| | Ran with Todd. Left hia house and went down Chambers, crossed Washington, went by Friendship, the Armory and then over to Ogden Regional and down the toll road a bit, then turned and looped back. Ran an 8 minute pace |

Wasatch Back Relay (5.6 Miles) 00:45:10, Place overall: 47, Place in age division: 3
Ran the first leg of the Wasatch Back Relay today. I was the third runner in Van 1. We had a crazy experience which I will talk about on tomorrow's blog since everything happened after midnight. As far as the first let everything went fine without any major problems. We had a 4:00 start time, which I thought was a little late, but our team projections had us under 24 hours. It was still pretty hot when I started my leg. The truck mirror said 86 degrees. I think the heat got to me as I really slowed down as the the run progressed. My miles were,
1. 7:13
2. 7:32
3. 8:06
4. 8:14
5. 8:44
.6 5:13-which was a 8:26 pace.
I never run in the heat (we haven't had much heat this year anyway) and it felt very suffocating which I think affected my pace a great deal. Anyway, I got through it and I was only two minutes behind my projection, so I wasn't feeling too bad about it. Overall pace was 8:02, I was hoping to be in the 7:15 range. |

Wasatch Back Relay (13.6 Miles) 24:54:18, Place overall: 47, Place in age division: 3
Day 2 of the Wasatch Back Relay and things got crazy. Runner 6 finished his leg and it was obvious that he wasn't feeling well. He ran an extremely fast leg down Avon. We had a difficult time keeping up with him in the vehicle. It was obvious though as he came into the exchange that he wasn't doing well. Vehicle 2 took over and we went to find something to eat. We tried two places in the valley and they were both closed so we drove down to the Oaks in Ogden Canyon. We went in and ordered and runner 6 said he wasn't feeling well and was going to the truck. His sister who was runner 5 went with him. A few minutes later she came back and said he wanted her to take him to the emergency room. One of our team members is a doctor so he went out to the truck to check on him. A couple of minutes later he came back and said, "guys, we have to go. Now." We had just started eating, so we grabbed our food, found the waitress, paid the bill and ran to the truck. Runner 6 was in extreme pain and in and out of consciousness. I won't use his name since this is a public board and this is a personal matter. Todd drove down to the hospital. As we were driving along Harrison Blvd. in Ogden we approached an intersection with a red light. We could see that the cross light had just turned red and there was no traffic coming so Todd continued through the intersection. The light turned green as we were about half way through. Unfortunately a police officer witnessed it and pulled us over. He didn't approach the vehicle and after a couple of minutes someone yelled out that he have a medical emergency. He got out of his car walked up and told us he'd follow us to the hospital. Our doctor was on the phone with the hospital so they were waiting for us when we arrived. They helped runner 6 into a wheelchair and took him into the hospital. He was doubled over in extreme pain and was incoherent. The officer watched all of this and then began to question Todd about why if we had a medical emergency we didn't call an ambulance. Todd explained that we had a doctor with us and we knew we could get to the hospital before an ambulance could get up the canyon to the Oaks and then back to the hospital. This discussion/argument went on for a couple of minutes with the officer being very confrontational. He finally took Todd's driver's license and said he'd be back. At this point, we were all worried and stressed about runner 6's health, pissed off at the officer over his confrontational approach and worried that Todd was getting a ticket. One of our team members is a felony prosecutor and he was getting readyto pull out the badge and tell the officer that he was out line with the way he was treating us. I told everyone to not worry about it, that if we got a ticket I'd get it taken care of. I found it ironic that out of a prosecutor, a doctor and a corporate executive, it was the criminal defense attorney telling everyone to not get upset with the police officer and to let it go. I've just seen too many of these situations end badly. After a few more minutes the officer returned, chewed Todd out again for not calling an ambulance and for going through the red light early and then gave him his license back without a ticket.
Now we had the dilemna of what to do. Runner 6 was being admitted into the hospital, his sister was justifiably upset and worried and had no desire to continue. Plus, we were in her vehicle. To complicate it we received a call from vehicle 2 informing us that their last runner had just started. I live less than a mile from McKay Dee Hospital so my wife brought up one of our vehicles in case we needed it. In the end, runner 5 sent us with her truck and her husband came to get her. This was a huge blow to our team because runner 6 was our fastest runner and runner 5 was our second fastest female. However, under the circumstances that was the least of our concerns. We left McKay Dee and drove up to Snowbasin trying to get there on time without any more run-ins with law enforcement. We pulled up next to the exchange and were immediately told by a law enforcement officer (who I know and is a great guy) that we couldn't park there. After we explained he said "just hurry." One of our runners from vehicle 2 was there and informed us that our runner was less than 200 yards away. Todd hurried and put on his vest and headlamp and got in the exchange just as our runner came in and he was off.
I ran the third leg which goes up towards Morgan. I started the run at 1:10 a.m. and had a pretty uneventful and slower than hoped for run. My miles were,
1. 7:37
2. 7:31
3. 7:37
4. 7:54
.9 7:06
I threw up right after I came into the exchange. Looking at those times I'm not sure why as I usually have to run a faster pace to hit that point. I finished vomitting and then we met back up with runner 5. They were still doing tests on runner 6 and didn't know what was wrong. Runners 4 and 5 ran their legs. Runner 5 tweaked her knee on her run and informed us she was done but that we could use her truck. Todd ran runner 6's leg up to East Canyon. After vehicle 2 took over we took runner 5 home, got a couple of hours of sleep and then the four of us that were left in our vehicle drove up to Rockport to take over for our third leg. We found out more information from the hospital about runner 6. He has some medical problems, but as I understand it, he'll be okay. I probably shouldn't say any more than that.
We're a mixed team and runner 5 was the only female in our vehicle so Malinda from vehicle 2 got in with us so she could run runner 5's third leg. I ran my third leg and felt pretty good about it considering everything that had happened over the last 24 hours. My times were,
1. 7:30
2. 8:20
3. 7:42
4. 7:26
5. 7:36
.15--1:03
I had a 7:42 pace for the leg. Normally I would have been relieved because my race was over. However, I had volunteered to run runner 6's final leg and only had two legs in between. Malinda ran runner 5's leg which was all down hill. She pulled a hammy and was in obvious pain and was crying as she finished. She gutted it out though. I then ran the third leg for runner 6. It was 3.6 miles. It was 11:39 when I started and it was getting warm. My miles were,
1. 7:23
2. 8:21
3. 8:20
.60--4:14 which was a 7:32 pace.
Overall, I had a 7:57 pace for this leg. Vehicle 2 took over and we gave Malinda back. She was in obvious pain. We tried to talk her out of running her final leg which was the second leg in vehicle 2. We told her not to risk a serious injury but she was determined to finish her legs. We stayed with them in case anything happened and we needed to take another runner to the hospital. She gutted out 6 plus miles, passing runners the entire way. It was definitely one of the toughest things I've ever seen. She was barely walking and in a lot of pain when she finished. I hope she didn't do any serious damage.
We left vehicle two after Malinda finished and drove to Park City. We didn't realize that they changed the finish area so we parked up by the old finish line and got on the path at the same place where the runners running the final leg do. About a half mile later we realized we had screwed up. We decided to keep going and jogged down to the finish area. We met up with the rest of our team and all ran in together.
We took 47th overall and third in our division which is the over 30 mixed. Our goal was to break 24 hours and win our division. We missed both, both I was extremely proud of our team's effort. Considering all of the adversity I thought we did great. Our team consists of housewives and professionals. None of us ran in college and only two ran short distances in high school. We have 33 kids between us and we all run when we can to stay in shape. We'll try again next year to break that 24 hour mark.

South Ogden Days 5k (3.1 Miles) 00:23:07, Place overall: 15, Place in age division: 1 | | I ran the South Ogden Days 5K. I wasn't going to run it since I was still a little sore from the Wasatch Back, but at the last minute decided to show some civic pride and run my city's 5k. I ran a mile warm up in 8:34. My legs were definitely tight. I decided at that point to do this as a "fun" run and stay in the 8 minute range. When they lined us up at the start I sized up the crowd. There were several hundred peope, but other than a couple of high school kids, it looked like I ought to be able to run with the rest of them. My plan changed when the siren went off and my competitive nature took over. I stayed with the top group for the first mile. The two high school kids pulled ahead but other than that I was with the top 5 or 6 other runners. The first mile is gradual uphill. I did it in 7:04, but I was gassed. The second mile is slightly uphill the first half mile and then starts to come back down. I ran that one in 7:52. I got passed by 6 or 7 runners during that mile. The last mile is a gradual down hill. It was on a road that I ran a couple of times a week and should have been able to crank down to a 6:45 pace without a lot of trouble. However, it just wasn't there. I ran it in 7:27. I held off the rest of the pack though. I finished in 23:07. All things considered I felt pretty good, although if I would have slowed down the first mile I probably would have had a faster time. Took first place in my age division and got a backpack and a ribbon.
| | Todd came down and we ran from my house up to 45th made our way to Monroe and then up to McKay Dee. Went on the trail around the hospital and then over to 40th. Down 40th to Adams and then back to 45th and to my house. We took it easy had just under a nine minute pace. |
| | I ran today from our place in Centennial Shores in Island Park. I had one of the best runs I've had in a long time. The sun was just coming up over Bills Island as I ran along the Island Park Reservoir. Beautiful morning, very enjoyable run. Took it easy on the dirt roads through Centennial Shores. Had a 9:06 pace for the run. |
| | Alright. July 1st and time for new commitments. It looks like I'm probably going to get into St. George after all, so it's time to get serious. The goal from here on out is 200 mile months. We'll see how that goes. I started out the month on a good note. I met up with Todd and Mike at Beus Pond and we ran 800s. I ran a couple of warm-up miles. Then did four 800s. I started out with a 3:23, then 3:21, 3:14 and 3:03. My legs were pretty sore at first but gradually loosened up. That 3:03 may have been the fastest 800 I've run. I'll have to go back and check sometime. I was in a wreck today and my car was towed so I caught a ride to Todd's house and then ran the almost two miles home for a total of 6.75 miles. |
| | I left my place in Macks Inn and ran down to Cascade. From there went to Big Springs Drive, turned back towards Macks Inn. Ran to Macks, crossed the bridge and went up river until the gate. Turned and went back down the river, crossed at the bridge and back home. Another beautiful run in Island Park with perfect temperatures and even better scenery. |
| | I ran again in the Macks Inn area. I left my place and ran to Cascade and then down towards Big Springs, then returned. the half marathon is tomorrow and was just out to keep everything loose. |
| Race: |
Sawtelle Stampede Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:53:46, Place overall: 6 | | I ran the Sawtelle All American Stampede Half Marathon in Island Park. This is the third year I've run this race and it doesn't get any easier. The race starts out on a rarely used Forest Service dirt road. It's in pretty bad shape with a lot of ruts, rocks and roots. It's impossible to get into any kind of groove the first three miles. After three miles it turns onto a better graded dirt road that is easier to run on. This lasts for approximately a mile and a half and then you hit pavement for another mile and a half or so that has two fairly steep rolling hills on it. The race is an out and back so you return the way you came. The entire course is full of rolling hills so there's a lot of climbing. I spent the three days prior to the race waterskiing and eating lots of food including dutch over chicken, potatos and cobbler the night before the race. Also stayed up late hanging out at the fire at Kunzler's place. Needless to say I wasn't primed for a good run. I picked up Todd at his place the morning of the race and then met up with Sean, Mike and Joel at the start. There were a lot of high school kids at the start and I figured they were running the 5 or 10 k. Other than that it didn't look like an overally fast field this year. The race started out and we started a gradual climb right away. They start the 5 and 10 k at the same time and they do out and backs on the same course. A big group went out a head of me including all of the high school kids. I hit the turn around mark for the 5k and only saw one person who had turned around. That meant all of the high school kids were running the 10k or the half. Right before the 10k turn around 15 or so people passed me going back to the finish. I wasn't sure how many were left ahead of me but figured there were no more than 10. As I approached the turn around point for the half marathon I was in fifth place with a pretty good lead on a group of 5-10 people who were behind me. The first place person had about a quarter mile lead on me, and he was closely followed by Todd and then a female, another male and me. It looked like the male and female were in striking distance and I kept them in sight until about the 11 mile mark when they pulled ahead. When I realized I wasn't going to catch them I pulled over to relieve myself and I was putting everything together a runner caught me. I chased him for about a half mile, but he gradually pulled away. I ended up in 6th. Todd beat my by a little over 2 minutes and he ended up in third and won some money. Anyway, I had a good time and hopefully burned off some the calories I'd consumed.
| | I ran from my house down to my office. It's a gradual downhill run. Averaged an 8:44 pace. I was much sorer than I expected. |
| | I went to Beus Pond to run Yasso 800s. Met up with Todd, Mike, Quentin and Shannon. Ran a warm up mile and then 5 800s. I did them in 3:02, 3:08, 3:08, 3:15 and 3:10. I was hoping to run them all in under 3:20, so I felt good about the times. |
| |
I ran an easy route up Jefferson, back down Burch Creek, down to 41st, up to Monroe and back home. Had exactly a nine minute pace for the run. |
| | I ran with Todd and Mike. We started at the Albertsons in S. Ogden and ran the Combe loop backwards. From there we went along Harrison to Old Post. Took Old Post to the Dee Events Center. Went up Skyling, did a loop around Beus Pond, then continue up Skyline and down to 36th. Went over to Mt. Ogden Park and then made our way to 20th St. Went down past El Monte Golf Course to the mouth of the canyon where we got on the river parkway and took it down to Grant and then up to 23 rd Street and to the Frontrunner terminal where Todd had his car parked. |
| | I ran 3 miles from our place in Centennial out to the Old Shotgun Road. |
| | I ran five miles in Island Park along Snake River Drive and the Yale-Kilgore road. |
| | My 40th birthday and I felt like an old man. I think I water skied too hard over the last several days or something, because my legs just weren't cooperating on this run. Got a little over 4 miles in before I got back to the cabin and more waterskiing. |
| | Todd and I left his house and went up past the old Golf City to Harrison, crossed, and did the Combe loop backwards. Went along Harrison to Old Post. Took it to 4600, crossed Harrison again and went down to Glassman and back to Todds. Took it easy the first couple of miles in the nine minute range, then dropped down to 7:45s and back to 9s the last couple of miles up Glasmann and Chambers. Had a 8:32 pace for the run. |
| | ran 6 800s on the track up at Weber State. Started with a 8:30 mile to get warmed up then knocked out the 800s. The times ranged between 3:04 and 3:16 with the 3:04 being the last one. After that we ran every step up and down on the west side of the stadium and then did a cool down lap. Total mileage was 6. |
| | I did two miles on a dirt trail along the Henry's Forks and then 3.25 along cascade and the Big Springs up by Macks Inn |
| | I left my place at Macks Inn and ran down to Highway 20, crossed the bridge and went up the river to the gate. Turned around and went back to the Big Springs road. Ran to Big springs and then back to my place. |
| | I ran with Todd tonight. We left his house and ran past the old Golf City, crossed Harrison and ran old post to Eastwood, back across Harrison and back to Todd's house. Had a 7:39 average pace, which was quite a bit faster after the 8:42 first mile. After yesterday's stinker of a run, where I labored to maintain a nine minute pace it felt good to run a faster pace. |
| | Ran in the neighborhood. The pace ranged from 8 to 8:45. |
| | left Todd's house, crossed Washington and went down by Emerald Hills and past the armory. Ran to Ogden Regional and then through Washington Terrace to 5000 S. Turned up the frontage road, back to the City offices and returned to Todds. Had an 8:04 pace for the run. |
| | I ran with Todd and Sean. We left the snowmobile parking lot on top of Monte and ran down to Red Rocks and then down South Fork for a few more miles. Stayed in the 8 minute pace for most of the run, backed off to 8:30 the last couple of miles. |
| |
Sean, Todd and I started at the Albertsons in S. Ogden and ran through Uinta up to Woodland. Climbed Woodland to Bonneville Terrace. Climbed to the top of Bonneville Terrace and followed it to Shadow Valley. Dropped down on Wasatch and made our way to Old Post Road and then back to our cars. A good run with a lot of steep uphill and subsequent down hill. |
| Race: |
Provo River Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:37:03, Place overall: 134, Place in age division: 15 | | Another wake-up call (as if I needed one). Left at Ogden at 4:00, got down to Provo by 5:00. Was on one of the last buses which turned out to be a problem. I was up a ways when the race started. I have an unofficial time of 1:35:05. That's about where I expected to be and is a little slower than I ran this last year. After a first mile of dodging people I opened up miles two through four and hit a 6:33, 6:46 and 6:39. I paid for it in the end and ran miles 12 and 13 both at 7:54. With my mileage where it's been I wasn't surprised when I broke down after mile 10. This race has so much potential that I wish it was a little better organized. It's a great run though so I return every year. |
| | Recovery run in the neighborhood. Went up Jefferson until the end turned and came down Burch Creek to 41st, up to Madison to 42nd to Jefferson and back home. The legs were very sore tonight. Took it easy. Had aches and pains the entire run. |
| | This was suppose to be a five mile run. My wife and kids were up swimming at Bernies. I decided to run up there and join them for a swim. They left earlier than expected and they were gone when I got there. I had no choice but to run back home. Pretty much all up hill on the way there and down coming home. The legs are still a little sore from Saturday had a 8:44 avg. pace. |
| | I ran home Mostly down hill, still a little sore. |
| | I ran with Todd and Mike. We left Albertson's parking lot in S. Ogden and ran down through S. Ogden past Friendship and the Armory to Ogden Regional. Went down the toll road into lower Uintah and then back up Combe into upper Uintah. Mike called good at that point, which was ten miles. Todd and I continued along Old Post to Weber State and then to Mt. Ogden Park. Continued along the east bench to 20th and then ran down to Peak Performance where we left a car. It was very hot the first ten miles and it really sapped us. Averaged just under a nine minute pace for the run. A lot of hill work on this run. | |
| | I ran 800s up at Weber State with Todd and Mike. I ran a warmup mile in 8:38 and then did 5 800s. they ranged from 3:07 to 3:18. slow jogged/walked a lap in between, then did a half mile cool down. |
| | Didn't get out until almost 11:00 p.m. Did an easy three mile route in the neighborhood. My legs were still a little sore. Treated it as a recovery run. Had an 8:52 pace for the run. |
| | I ran with Todd and Mike. We did a new route which I really liked. We started at the Albertsons in S. Ogden and ran the full Combe loop. St. George Marathon (26.2 Miles) 03:38:40, Place overall: 1146, Place in age division: 151 | | Not what I hoped for. I went into this knowing that my mileage wasn't where it needed to be and with no real expectations. However, a fifteen minute decrease from last year was not what I had in mind. The wind and rain certainly contributed. When I get more time I'll break down my splits. |
| | First run since St. George. My legs were really sore. Todd and I did an easy run, but I couldn't keep up with him. I was in the 9 to 10 minute range after mile 3. |
| | Five easy miles on the treadmill |
| | I ran three miles along the beah in Redondo Beach. They have a paved trail next to the beach. Very cool run. My legs were still pretty sore though. |
| | 4.5 easy miles on the treadmill. the legs seemed to feel better. |
| | Todd and I left his house and went up and around the Combe loop and back to his house. Kept the pace in the 8 to 8:30 range. |
| | Ran the toll road with Quentin, Sean, Mike and Ben. My legs were really sore again. It seems like they should feel better by now. In addition, I got stung by a sting ray while I was in California last week and my foot turned red and was swollen at the end of the run. Hopefully nothing serious. |
| | Ran with Todd from his house. We went down past Friendship to the top of the toll road and then back. 9:08 pace. Legs still sore. |

New York Marathon (26.2 Miles) 04:12:39
I ran the New York Marathon. I'm currently in the middle of a capitol murder trial in Logan. It hasn't allowed me to run or sleep much the past couple of weeks. Friday night I drove home from Logan. Took the kids treak or treating and then caught a midnight flight to New York. Landed at 6:30 a.m. New York time, 4:30 Utah time. I tried to sleep on the plane but wasn't too successful. I arrived at the hotel around 8 and got three hours of sleep. Sean, Todd and Spence had flown in on Wednesday. Spent Saturday walking all over Manhatten. Went to the expo and saw the sights. Got back to the hotel fairly late. Fell asleep sometime after midnight. Woke up at 3:30 a.m. Had to catch a taxi to the subway and then had a 45 minute subway ride to Manhattan where we caught a bus out to Staten Island. Arrived on Staten Island a little after 6:30. The marathon didn't start until 9:40. It was a cold, windy morning. I tried to stay warm to no avail. In addition to the lack of sleep and running I still haven't fully recovered from St. George. All of the above spelled disaster. I figured I was in for some hard times. I decided to just run at a comfortable pace for as long as I could. The marathon was great, tons of spectators along the course. I'd like to run this again with proper training and rest and see how I could do. My miles are as follows;
1. 8:33
2. 7:22
3. 7:31
4. 7:47
5. 7:39
6. 8:07
7. 7:54
8. 10:29--I'mnot sure what happened here. I don't remember anything difficult at this point.
9. 8:00
10. 8:25
11. 8:45
12. 8:29
13. 8:50
14. 8:27
15. 7:50
16. Not sure what my time was here. At this point we went on a bridge and there was a top level above us. My garmin couldn't read the satellite and shows a mile and .59 and says I ran it in 11:57. From here on out my garmine was about a half mile ahead of the course.
17. 8:37
18. 8:34
19. 10:06
20. 11:32--I'm really starting to feel fatigue at this point.
21. 9:53
22. 11:09
23. 15:11--At this point my legs were jell-o. I pretty much walked from here on out. We were in Central Park and I just took in the experience of the park and all the people.
24. 14:41
25. 14:04
26. 12:33
Even though the time wasn't what I would normally be happy with, I wasn't at all concerned with it. I had a great time and hope to get back there under better circumstances in the next couple of years.
| | Ran with Todd, Mike, Sean and Ben. We started at the Albertson's in S. Ogden and ran to the football stadium at Weber State and then back. Took it nice and easy. My calves cramped whenever I was running up hill. Other than that my legs were a little sore, but not too bad. |
| | Todd and I left my house and ran up Jefferson to Burch Creek and then up Chambers to St. Josephs. Crossed Washington and ran down through S. Ogden past the armory and into the Terrace. Went all the way across the top of theTerrace and down 500 W. to 4800 S. Down to Hilltop where we crossed Washington and back to my house. After the first two miles of uphill I felt really good and we stayed around an 8 minute pace. |
| | Ran with Ben and Sean. We left Albertson's on Harrison and ran along Old Post to the Dee Events Center. Went up Skyline and got on the trail above the football stadium. Climbed up to the Bonneville Shoreline trail and made our way to Rainbow Gardens. Got on the Ogden River trail and followed it down to Peak Performance. |
| | Ran on the treadmill while I watched the Jazz game. |
| | Did a quick loop up Jefferson, down Burch Creek to 41st up to Monroe and back home. |
| | Went 4 miles on the hotel treadmill. |
| | Ran from Todd's house to Albertson's did the full combe loop backwards and then back to Todds. Had a 8:32 avereage pace. Legs still heavy. |
| | Ran with Ben, Quentin and Sean. We left Albertsons in South Ogden and ran to Weber State. Got on the trail above the stadium and started climbing. My right calf cramped up and I had to walk most of the way up. Finally topped out and had spectacular views of Ogden as we ran along the trail. Made our way over to Rainbow Garden and then got on the Ogden River path and ran down to Peak Performance. Once we hit the river trail we decided to temp it. I ran miles 9 and 10 in 7:33 and 7:34. I felt pretty strong but ran out of gas towards the end. Overall, a great run. |
| | Todd and I ran from my house. We went up Jefferson to Burch Creek and then up Chambers all the way to Harrison. Ran over to Old Post and then down to 46th at the Dee Events Center. Crossed Harrison and ran down to Monroe to 41st to Jefferson and then home. First two miles had a lot of hills, rolling and downhill from there. |
| | Ran on the treadmill while I watched the Jazz lose again. |
| | Ran from my house up Jefferson to Burch Creek, up Chambers, crossed Washington at St. Josephs and then down through S. Ogden, around by the hospital and then down to Bonneville, crossed at Hilltop and then home. I was hoping that with some rest my legs would start to feel better, but instead felt worse. I'm not sure what's wrong, but they are definitely not right. |
| | Ran with Mike, Sean, Todd and Quentin. We left Albertson's on Harrison and ran down through South Ogden, past Friendship and the armory, into the Terrace, past Ogden Regional down to Bonneville. Crossed Washington at Hilltop, went to Adams and then down to 20th street and ended at Peak Performance. Cold, snowy day. Legs still hurting. Took it real easy. |
| | Went and had a deep tissue massage today. My legs were very tight with knots all over. The massage felt great though. Went out a couple of hours afterward. Ran from Todd's house down to Glasmann, then to 45th to Monroe down to 41st, to Adams up to Burch Creek and then Chambers back to Todds. Snowing and the road was a little slick so we took it at a pretty easy pace. Legs felt better, but still sore. |
| | Todd and I left his house and ran through S. Ogden over to Ogden Regional and then back, via Sunset and Chambers. My legs felt a little better, although not good. Still can't push the pace past about 8:15. |
| |
I started out with Q, Todd, Sean and Ben. The idea was to get 12 in. We left Albertson's and did the full Combe loop then went over to Old Post and were headed to Weber State and the east bench. My calf was cramping so bad I could hardly move. At 45th I called it a day and dropped down to Jefferson and home. |
| | I left my house and went up Jefferson. The first mile and a half I was pain free and it was the first run I've enjoyed in over a month. At 1.6 my calf seized up again and I could hardly move. I ran and walked the rest of the way until I got home. |
| | I ran with Mike, Todd, Q, and Ben. We left Albertsons and went down through S. Ogden and over to Washington Terrace and then down Adams to Peak Performance. I made it 2 and a half miles before my calf started acting up. After a little walking it would be good for a while. I'm starting to get worried that something's wrong that's going to require some time off. Limited running isn't helping it at all. The roads were snow covered and slick in places. Other than my calf problem it was a great morning. |
| | I ran in the neighborhood. I made it to two and a half miles before I had to walk. The right leg was sore throughout. |
