I ran with Sean this morning.  We ran the route we call "Bernies."  Went along Combe and then up to Bernie's house, turned around and returned via Eastwood.  Took it easy, stayed in the nine minute range.

I ran with Todd, Mike D. and Sean.  We ran the Combe loop backwards, then went to Old Post, to the Dee Events Center, through Weber State, past Mt. Ogden park and then down to 20th.  Went past El Monte down to the mouth of the canyon and got on the Ogden River parkway and ran the last three and half miles of Ogden.  Took it pretty easy.  Ran in the 9 minute range the first 9 miles.  Dropped down to 7:30 through the parkway.

Todd and I left Peak Performance and went up 20th, past Harrison and then turned and went past El Monte down to the mouth of the canyon and got on the Ogden River parkway.  After we topped out on Harrison stayed in the 7:15 to 8 minute range.  My legs felt heavy and tired today.  Not sure why.

Ran with Todd, Mike D., Mike G., Sean, Quenton, and Heather.  We started at the Albertsons on Harrison, ran through S. Ogden past the armory, turned and went to Ogden Regional and through Wash. Terace to 500 West, down to 48oo S. past Bonneville, continued down and then crossed Washington at Hilltop.  Went down to Adams and then all the way to my office at 25th and Washington.  Had an 8:29 pace. Nice gentle flat and down hill run.

I ran up at Beus Pond with Todd.  I did a warm up mile followed by four 800s and then a cool down loop.  The times on the four 800s were 3:03, 3:10, 3:12, 3:08.  I only did four because of the marathon this week.  I haven't gone back to check, but I'm pretty sure these were faster than when I was regularly running these last summer.

I had such a lousy run that it has taken me several days to finally post this.  After four years of pretty good progress I felt like this was a real step backwards.  I'm not entirely sure what happened but I have a few ideas.  The heat was definitely a factor.  So was a lack of sleep.  I made the mistake of driving up to Island Park on Thursday evening to check out a couple of properties.  Stayed up late Thursday night having a little too much fun.  My internal clock woke me up at 6:30 with less than 5 hours of sleep.  Drove back to Ogden Friday afternoon went to the expo and then to dinner with friends.  Went home and tried to go to bed but couldn't with the Jazz game on.  Ended up watching the entire game.  When it was over I was too worked up to get to sleep.  Only got between 3 -4 hours of sleep that night.  I still felt pretty good the morning of the race.  Met up with most of my group at my office which is where the buses left from and rode up to the start.  It was a nice morning.  As others have commented, it was too nice.  My goal was to run a 3:30 which I felt I should be able to do.  I've had a problem running the first half too fast in prior marathons and burning out at the end.  I Decided to try a different strategy and slow down early.  Ran the first half exactly as planned.  Wanted to be at 1:45 and then turn it on coming down the canyon.  I hit the half way mark 20 seconds ahead of the plan.  Got up the hill at mile 15 still feeling pretty good.  However there was no turning it on.  I struggled to maintain an 8 minute pace.  I stayed in the 8 minute range until mile 21.  Miles 21, 22 and 23 I stayed in the 8:30 to 9 minute pace.  The heat was really getting to me and I was starting to feel nauseaus.  At the aid station at mile 23 I took an orange and sucked in the juice.  I had a bad reaction to it and ended up on the side of the trail dry heaving for a couple of minutes.  For a while I thought my race was over.  I recomposed and finished, but by that time there was nothing left and I struggled over the last three miles at over a 12 minute pace.  When I crossed the finish line I got assisted to the medic tent where I spent the next 45 minutes.  Not a pleasant experience.  Unless I can find the time to get more miles in this will probably be my last marathon for awhile.

First run since the marathon.  I expected my legs to be sore and therefore to have a difficult run.  I surprisingly felt great.  I ran from my house to my office.  It's a gentle downhill slope.  I had to force myself to stay above an 8 minute pace.  Had some general soreness, but overall felt really strong.

I ran with Todd and Sean.  We left the Albertsons parking lot and ran along harrison to Old Post.  Ran to the Dee Events Center and then over to the football stadium.  Turned up and ran up Skyline past Beus Pond and back down to the Dee Events Center and then back via Old Post Road.  We varied the pace quite a bit between 7:15 down Old Post and a ten minute pace up Skyline.  Overall, maintained an 8:30 pace.

I ran in St. Louis.  Left my hotel and ran through downtown past the Edward Jones Dome where the Rams play, down to the arch and along the Mississippi for a while and then back to my hotel.  I didn't have a lot of time so cut it short after 3
