I ran with Cherrie. She's running the 5 miler in Moab and has only been on the treadmill and wanted to get on the road at least once. It was a pretty slow run but it felt good to get the blood moving after yesterday's run.

Ran tonight with Mike, Todd and Shane. We did a hill workout. Went down to Glasmann then turned up crossed Harrison and got on Old Post Rd. Ran the first mile of the Striders 5k. Kept climbing up into Shadow Valley. Got on Skyline and went south to Woodland and then down Dominion and back to Peak. A lot of hills. After the 10k Saturday it was decided that we need more hill work. Hopefully it will pay dividends.

I ran with Todd and Shane.  We left Peak and ran down to Burch Creek and then to 41st, went up to Monroe and then Glasmann and back to the store.  The first 3 miles was downhill with the last three mostly up.  My right calf cramped up on the way back.  it made me a little nervous for Saturday.

The official results have me in at 1:36:05, but my Garmin had me at 1:36:21 so I'm going with that. This was the fourth straight year I've run this race so I felt going in that it would be a good test of where I'm at compared with the past couple of years.  In 05 I ran it in 1:55:24, 06--1:43:15, 07--1:38:41.  It's nice to see progress and that I am getting faster.  In 04 I ran the five mile race and it was the first time I had ever run that far and I ran it in 45:27.

As far as this year's race, the weather was perfect for running.  It was a little cool for riding ATVs Thursday and Friday however.  I debated how I wanted to run this.  Part of me wanted to conserve early and hopefully have some strength left for the hill during mile nine and then a strong finish.  At the last minute I decided to take advantage of the early decline and push the pace early.  My miles are as follows:

1--6:47

2--6:41

3--7:13

4--7:02

5--7:33

6--6:56

7--7:33

8--7:22

9--My Garmin messed up during this mile.  We were in along a steep canyon wall and I think it threw it off.  It showed a 6:16 mile but it registered a mile at about the .80 mark.  From here my miles are off with the course.  I'll list them anyway

10--7:40

11--7:23

12-7:34

13-7:35

.35--that was the distance left with the screw up.  I ran it in 2:36 which was a 7:32 pace.

Overall, I felt really good with my effort today.  I was hopeful for a 1:35, but also felt that anything under 1:37 would be a good time.  Unfortunately I didn't meet up with any bloggers although a female in a blue FRB long sleeve shirt passed me around mile 1.
